WALMART HAS HIRED HALF A MILLION PEOPLE SINCE MARCH.

Image
Walmart (WMT), which has already hired more than 500,000 workers in stores and across its supply chain since March to meet growing demand in the pandemic, said Wednesday that it will hire more than 20,000 seasonal workers in e-commerce fulfillment centers across the country "to prepare for an expected increase in online shopping." Walmart has stores every year that bring on seasonal associates, according to a spokesperson, but the last time Walmart hired a "large number of seasonal associates" was in 2015, when it added 60,000 holiday workers for stores. The overall hiring forecast for this holiday season "remains uncertain," but "it is clear that the proportion of sales that are made online will reach record levels and that may cause a permanent change in the future of holiday hiring," Andy Challenger, senior vice president at outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, said in an email. Shoppers have bought more goods online in recent m...

FROM EGYPT TO THE WORLD, MR. DAVID ADEL HABIB

Image
EGYPTIAN CULTURE David Adel Habib  is a tour guide, born in Egypt who practises Christianity. This country stands out for its desert landscape, but this does not prevent it from being a place full of history and cultural richness. Despite the wonders we may find there, Egypt faces a great conflict regarding its large population of more than 15 million people living only in the capital city. A typical family that inhabits the central part of the region manages to raise up to four children. However, in remote areas it is common to have a larger family.  Islam predominates in religious fields but still a small part of the population is Christian. Although the number of followers of these religions are not the same, they live together daily without any conflicts and the respect remains. Islamic culture has made changes in the image of women but still retains characteristic features, such as the costumes and polygamy. David exclaimed in the interview that nowadays women keep a more...

Scientists discover new shark species that glows in the dark

Image
The tiny shark, named the American pocket shark, was collected by chance by a research team aboard a  NOAA  ship studying sperm whales feeding off the Gulf of Mexico. The shark was found amidst the other specimens that had been collected during the survey.  The shark was sent to the Tulane University Biodiversity Research Institute for further investigation, where it was compared to a pocket shark found off the east coast of Chile — the only other similar specimen to have been found. The original pocket shark was found in 1979 and was described as a new species in 1984. Until the American pocket shark was identified, it was the only pocket shark known to science. Both species are types of kitefin shark, but with five key differences that classifies them as being separate species. Though both have small pocket glands behind each pectoral fin on either side of the body, the glands of American pocket shark produce a bioluminescent fluid, and photophores (light produci...

Saudi Arabia suspended all flights to and from India due to an increase in coronavirus cases in the country. In addition to India, it has also cancelled air travel to and from Brazil and Argentina also for the same reason. The government imposed that passengers travelling from India must have a negative COVID certificate before travelling. All international flights in India have been suspended since the virus outbreak. Later, it had organized special international flights between India and Saudi Arabia operational since 6 May under the Vande Bharat missio. TEQBALL

Image
Social media has given quite a lot of popularity to some new and original sports. One of them is “Teqball”, that only in six years turned into a popular sport all around the world. Teqball was invented in 2012 in Hungary by three football enthusiasts, former professional player Gábor Borsányi, Hungarian businessman György Gattyán and computer scientist Viktor Huszár. It is like a fusion between football and table tennis. It is played on a curved table and the ball can be touched with the whole body except arms and hands. In September 2020, the International Federation of Teqball asked to be member of the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF). They only got the condiotion of observers, but they are in the right way for becoming part of the Olympic Games. THE ANNUAL LE MANS

Image
After a year of waiting and delays, the most famous racing competition finally  took place last weekend. Although, without a public and with a reduced number of teams due to the pandemic. The so far invictus company Toyota has won the 88th competition of Le Mans, and it is the third time in a row. It was also a third consecutive win for driver Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima driving. In second place arrived the Rebellion car. Sadly, this was the last year that Rebellion participated in the WEC (World Endurance Competition), and Toyota was left as the only champion in the WEC series. Apart from this, the car in the third position was driven by José María López, who was born in Córdoba, which almost arrived in the first position, but due to some motor problems, it was overtaken. In the LMP2 category, the winner was the car from United Autosports. Theother two categories, GTPro (Gran turismo professional) and GTA (gran turismo amateur) were won by Aston Martin. SAVING BIODIVERSITY

Image
It’s been known that the world is failing to address a catastrophic biodiversity collapse that not only threatens to wipe out beloved species and invaluable genetic diversity, it also affects humanity’s food supply, health and security. The pandemic led to increased life of species around the world and forest fires, for the climate change and land management policies, are ravaging the American West. Last year, human activity was decimating animals and plants across the planet, causing a wave of extinctions and throwing ecosystems so out of balance that the domino effects threatened humans themselves . Unfortunately, the destruction of habitats such as forests, mangroves and grasslands never stopped. Overfishing did not decrease and governments did not stop subsidizing fossil fuels, fertilizers and pesticides that are contributing to the biodiversity crisis. LIBERTADORES CUP “CONCENTRATION OR HEALTH BUBBLE

Image
The governing body of South American football explained how the measures will be so that teams that travel abroad should not go into quarantine. The most obvious problem that teams will have will be flights, the main sources for the spread of the virus. That is why the protocol indicates that all footballers who are going to travel, in addition to the rest of the delegation -coaches, doctors, props and referees-, must take the PCR test before boarding. In order to travel, of course, they must test negative and once they are in a foreign land, where they can stay for a maximum of 72 hours, they will not be obliged to comply with the 14 days of quarantine that countries usually require for those who enter. Fred Nantes, CONMEBOL's director of competitions, was in charge of explaining it in detail: "They arrive in the country and from the airport they go directly to the hotel. Eventually they may have some training but, beyond that, they only leave the hotel for the match.  In...

NATURE AT BREAKPOINT

Image
In 2010, different countries agreed on saving the planet. Today, we find ourselves in a critical situation where biodiversity decreases quickly by the non-compliance of these objectives. Thanks to the climate crisis driven by mass production, consumption and population growth, the environment will increasingly harm those who live in it. During these 10 years, pollution caused the deterioration of our oceans and a severe demand for natural resources. Achieving the improvement of the ecosystem, requires immediate action to save biodiversity for common well-being. REFERENCES Jessie Yeung, C. (16 de September de 2020). CNN . The awakening

Image
Suddenly… I opened my eyes. I was lost. There was a calendar near me, which said it was september 2021. I was lying in a hospital bed, surrounded by nothing but a small radio with a start button. After a few minutes, I decided to turn on the radio. I could not believe what I was hearing: I had been in a coma for two years, a virus had affected all global population and the world was totally devastated. In the same message I heard my name, they were saying that my blood was the only possible cure for this noxious virus. I really felt that I was living my worst nightmare. Anyway, I went to sleep again, sometimes my dreams feel too real.   This text has been written by GASTALDO María, ROJO POLERO Delfina, BARBIERIS Agustín and  SCHIAPPACASSE Elisabet

ARGENTINA ANNOUNCES RETURN OF FLIGHTS

Image
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Argentina has been in lockdown and many services have not been available due to the risk of virus spreading. This has been the case for flights. The lockdown made it so that all of the domestic and international flights are strictly regulated and pretty much limited to specific cases. Looks like that will be the case until October 1st, because the transport minister, Mario Meoni, has said that flights (domestic and international) are due to restart on October 1st. It's been said that these will depend on either province government or border restrictions of each countries, but if a province or a coutry allows it, we will be able to fly. It has been confirmed that a hygiene protocol has been formulated to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. Overall, an announcement that takes us a little bit closer to a return of our normal lives. THE GERMANY HOPE

Image
Since this pandemic started early this year, the world has been waiting for the production of the vaccine. This is the reason that this dramatic situation will only end if one of two situations happens: when a vaccine is available or when half of the population is infected. Therefore, a question must be asked: When will the vaccine be available? The German government is expecting a COVID-19 vaccine to be available for parts of the population early next year. Many projects are being subsidized by different governments, and these projects have already being tested in volunteers in search of scientific approvement. However, we cannot expect to have the vaccine in the following months, and we will have to wait till next year. Some complementary projects, like Oxford´s vaccine, have had a few problems with the side effects. Apart from that, not all the people could have the luck to be vaccinated, just only the vulnerable ones and the essential workers. REFERENCES DW. (16 de September ...

ARE THE KIDS COMING BACK TO SCHOOL?

Image
In the middle of the debate between the Nation and Ciudad de Buenos Aires about the protocols and a possible return to school, the education minister Soledad Acuña said she had seen progress in the discussion and had talked about the barriers to do it. She talked with Nicolás Trotta and there are some differences between the “how and when”. She presented a protocol but they ended up proposing to use open places and she agreed. There are two important things: the first one is to establish priorities, so the first ones to come back will be the 6500 kids that couldn’t follow online lessons. The second one is that they both think it’s necessary to come back to classrooms, but they also agree that isn’t the time to open all schools all day but they will define epidemic indicators to see when the step could be taken. WHAT’S GOING ON WITH FALABELLA IN ARGENTINA?

Image
The Chilean company presented a communication with their intentions of leaving Argentina, and gave a sales mandate to the investment bank “Colombus Merchant Banking”, so they could find a buyer for all their the local markets, including departmental stores, Sodimac homecenters and the CMR card. It was also announced that they were already closing four of their stores here. What’s the reason? On the one hand, we can see it is caused by the critical economic situation that Argentina is going through, with unbelievable falls in consumption. On the other hand, there are more and more restrictions to import the goods, and in addition to the possibility of a growth in government taxes, the business isn’t sustainable anymore. SUPER CLAMP ON THE DOLLAR

The Central Bank (BCRA) decided this Tuesday to further restrict the exchange rate. It launched a battery of measures with which it is hoped to relieve pressure on its deteriorating reserves and with which it aims to reduce the exchange rate gap. The entity chaired by Miguel Angel Pesce resolved that the expenses made abroad with a card would occupy part of the monthly quota of 200 USD, established a 35% withholding for the purchase of savings dollars or expenses with a card abroad, extended to 15 days the parking for the purchase of securities in local currency and decided to limit market access to companies that must face debts of more than 1 million USD per month. SCHOOL TRIPS CANCELLED IN SCOTLAND

Image
In Scotland, it was expected that school trips of the 2020/21 term would resume normally before the end of the year. Apparently, this will not be the case due to health preservation. Also its has been said that due to the pandemic, the insurance companies stand in a very delicate position, and it would be a risk for the families to send their kids to the residential trips because of the price and not having a secure insurance. Also, many of these trips would involve going to another country, and many of these have been involved in virus outbreaks, demanding them a change of hygene and quarantine protocols, possibly denying foreign students' visits. As we can see, even though it has been a long time since the  beginning  of all of this, the virus is still spreading and we are not going into our normal lives anytime soon it seems. Villa Traful - The invaluable experience of mountain biking

Image
We visited this beautiful and picturesque village last year. As this village is off the beaten track, most of its activities are closely related to the magical nature of the place.   After a few days,  we did an amazing activity, mountain biking. We took off from our camping site and went all the way through the mountain paths until we reached a lovely lake to rest. We all needed determination to finish the race, as the track was highly irregular. Nevertheless, the view of cycling at high speed in a magnificent, superb and untouched scenery filled us with a happiness that will never be forgotten.  This article has been written by ROJO POLERO Delfina, GASTALDO María BARBIERIS Agustín and  SCHIAPPACASSE Elizabeth

An orange San Francisco

Image
The inhabitants of San Francisco in the United States awoke with an orange sky, it seemed to be night, it was very dark, and ashes fell. The origin of this phenomenon is large wildfires.  What happened is that smoke blocks sunlight, darkens the sky and the sun crashed  causing temperatures to cool down in what was the warmest year in San Francisco according to the National Weather Service of the United States. It also affected California, Oregon, and Washington by destroying business homes and forcing many residents to evacuate. In California, there were eight deaths, the helicopters rescued people trapped in the Sierra National Forest. According to Oregon Governor Kate Brown said the fires there were an unprecedented event.
