WHAT’S GOING ON WITH FALABELLA IN ARGENTINA?

The Chilean company presented a communication with their intentions of leaving Argentina, and gave a sales mandate to the investment bank “Colombus Merchant Banking”, so they could find a buyer for all their the local markets, including departmental stores, Sodimac homecenters and the CMR card. It was also announced that they were already closing four of their stores here.


What’s the reason? On the one hand, we can see it is caused by the critical economic situation that Argentina is going through, with unbelievable falls in consumption. On the other hand, there are more and more restrictions to import the goods, and in addition to the possibility of a growth in government taxes, the business isn’t sustainable anymore.

Argentina´s economy threatens to crumble down while President Fernandez tries to come to an agreement with creditors

  Having extended the mandatory lockdown for the Buenos Aires metropolitan region until 17 July, the government´s cabinet has other problems that need to be dealt with immediately as well. To begin with, even though governments´ aid has benefited the lower class, the vast majority of the economically active population struggles to make ends meet and, therefore, starts to close down their businesses while CABA begins to reopen their economy. Secondly, the administration now embarks on a race against time to: resolve Argentina´s macro-economic problems and imbalance (concerning the fiscal situation and printing money), make our economy sustainable again (35,000 of Argentinian companies are considering to close their business) and revert the social consequences left behind by the pandemic and the previous mandate.   On the morning of October 27 we were given the opportunity to interview Mr. Yamamoto, a young man who used to attend our school and is currently living in Tokyo, Japan.   This week we had the opportunity to interview Lauren Stahl, a native American born in Michigan, who has lived there all her life. She gave us some insight about what she does for a living and her current studies. Apart from that, this was a particular occasion because it was the last interview of this different yet special year. Lauren has lived in Michigan all her life and has never travelled abroad. For this reason, she doesn't know any differences within cultures.   After a year of waiting and delays, the most famous racing competition finally  took place last weekend. Although, without a public and with a reduced number of teams due to the pandemic. The so far invictus company Toyota has won the 88th competition of Le Mans, and it is the third time in a row. It was also a third consecutive win for driver Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima driving. In second place arrived the Rebellion car. Sadly, this was the last year that Rebellion participated in the WEC (World Endurance Competition), and Toyota was left as the only champion in the WEC series.
