Mrs Stahl, a young teacher of spanish in US

This week we had the opportunity to interview Lauren Stahl, a native American born in Michigan, who has lived there all her life. She gave us some insight about what she does for a living and her current studies. Apart from that, this was a particular occasion because it was the last interview of this different yet special year.

Lauren has lived in Michigan all her life and has never travelled abroad. For this reason, she doesn't know any differences within cultures. She told us that she would like to visit Argentina and also commented that she has friends in the United States who had lived in Buenos Aires.

Later on, we asked about her hobbies and social activities, but she explained that because of the pandemic she prefers to stay safe inside home. However, she used to do things like going to the cinema, restaurants and watching football games before all this. In addition, we asked for recommendations on what to do if we have the chance to visit the United States and she suggested New York and Michigan as places worth visiting. She added that most teenagers, at the end of high school, took a gap year to work or do other activities before starting universit.

Regarding the pandemic she explained how the local government was taking great measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Nevertheless, a few months later, the minister did some illegal activities that ended up affecting the lockdown, which is why they are not currently kept in strict quarantine.

Lauren, like the majority of the Americans, claims that this election was a very controversial one and had several doubts about who was going to win. From her point of view, Trump's Government was very chaotic in the social aspect, especially when the BlackLivesMatter campaign protests became such a delicate matter. Another controversial topic was his way of dealing with Covid-19 as he didn’t decreed any kind of quarantine.

To close the interview, Lauren opened up about her personal life, her future goals and whether she would change something about her lifestyle. She claimed she was very happy with her decisions and her work.

At the end, Lauren turned around the interview and we became the interviewees, asking about our life here in Spanish, as she is trying to improve her speaking. We were asked what we are going to study, what are the common degrees to follow and some other things.

To sum up, this was a fitting end to this project that started alongside coronavirus, ranging from Javier Martinez to Lauren. Luckily, we were given the chance to learn lots of interesting aspects of different cultures and lifestyles, and for that we are forever grateful.
