Fires, an extreme consequence of global warming threatening biodiversity and citizens lives
For the past three month, Cordoba´s and the Delta´s wetlands (ecosystems that mitigate floods and purifying water) have been on fire. Cordoba´s fires are still active, 51 fires have been registered as of October, and have affected an estimate of 60,000 hectares (150,000 acres). These fires were caused by a pronounced drought, and were exacerbated by low water levels in the Parana River delta region, humid climate, and an increase in winds, which favored the spread of wildfires, due to climate change. Moreover, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile are going through a similar situation; this, therefore, proves that global warming is not a problem of the future, is a crisis in which scientists, citizens and governments have to ally in order to succeed.
