Nestled near the Mount Hachimantai summit in north-eastern Japan is a lake mythically believed to be the meeting place of two banished, lovestruck dragons. Each winter, ice forms at the top of the Kagami Numa lake and snow piles over its frozen surface. During the spring thaw, pressure from the water’s depths causes the snow to form only in the middle of the lake, transforming the circular lake’s appearance into a giant eye with a ring of open water around its melted “pupil”. The annual phenomenon lasts barely a week between late May and early June just before the ice melts entirely.  The unique sight went viral in 2016 when a tourist took a photo of the white doughnut-shaped ring and called it the “dragon eye” on social media. The asteroid “Bennu” is considered as an astonishing object due to the size and the fact that it's very close to Earth orbit. For that reason, NASA's OSIRIS-REx programme was designed so as to create a space probe to recollect some samples of the asteroid. Last Tuesday, at 7pm GTM +8, the vessel made its first contact with the asteroid, and was allowed to pick up certain amount of rocks and dust from the object. Some minutes later, due to the distance of the asteroid and the Earth at this moment, the first images and the video of the contact arrived here, and they wereshown by NASA live on the online platform of Youtube. Unfortunately, the day after the recollection, the spacecraft started to lose part of the samples collected, that weight 60 grams approx. On September 25th, the movie “The trial of the Chicago 7”, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, was released on Netflix. This production is based on the story of seven activists from different pacifist organizations, such as “Yippies” and “Black Panters”, who were being judged for mobilizing against the Vietnam War and generating a violent confrontation with the police. This conflict was the product of the mixture between the social pressure and the political decision to militarize the city. In fact, the movie is directed by a wonderful writer, so the script is extremely relevant in the hole movie. Finally, it is possible to say that the movie proposes a parallel relation between the problematic of racial violence nowadays and a trial that defended the violence of the government and police. Following the spread of the virus uncontrollably in the Navajos area of the USA, the health department issued a statement to residents of the different communities reporting areas with uncontrolled spread of COVID-19.   Three years ago we lived an amazing trip to Córdoba. We did all kinds of things there.   We stayed in a hostel located in a lonely and quiet place. It was so picturesque and very rich in nature. On last Tuesday, November 3rd, the United States elections were held and still there is no winner. After Biden's sudden comeback, Trump made several accusations of fraud for which he did not provide evidence. To win the presidency, both Donald Trump and Joe Biden need to reach 270 electoral votes, and actually the score is 264 (Biden)-214 (Trump).  Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin have become increasingly crucial. There are 5 states left to decide who will be the next president of the United States, and these are Arizona, North Carolina, Nevada, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. To win, Biden needs only 2 of the first 4 states or Pennsylvania and Trump needs 3 of the first 4 and Pennsylvania to reach a tie, so for now, the elections are tilted to Biden's side.             For the past three month, Cordoba´s and the Delta´s wetlands (ecosystems that mitigate floods and purifying water) have been on fire. Cordoba´s fires are still active, 51 fires have been registered as of October, and have affected an estimate of 60,000 hectares (150,000 acres). These fires were caused by a pronounced drought, and were exacerbated by low water levels in the Parana River delta region, humid climate, and an increase in winds, which favored the spread of wildfires, due to climate change.   This week we had the opportunity to interview Lauren Stahl, a native American born in Michigan, who has lived there all her life. She gave us some insight about what she does for a living and her current studies. Apart from that, this was a particular occasion because it was the last interview of this different yet special year. Lauren has lived in Michigan all her life and has never travelled abroad. For this reason, she doesn't know any differences within cultures. She told us that she would like to visit Argentina and also commented that she has friends in the United States who had lived in Buenos Aires.  Later on, we asked about her hobbies and social activities, but she explained that because of the pandemic she prefers to stay safe inside home.
