CORONAVIRUS IN BRAZIL

Brazil's health ministry reported 31,553 new cases on Tuesday, bringing the total infections to 5,000,694. Brazil has the third-highest number of cases, after the US and India, and the highest number of deaths in Latin America.

The streets of São Paulo, where most Brazilian deaths have been recorded, remain busy with shoppers.

Jair Bolsonaro, the President of Brazil, has been accused of downplaying the risks of the virus and ignoring advice from experts on restrictive measures but he has rejected criticism of his handling of the pandemic.

São Paulo has been the worst hit, with around 36,000 deaths, and Rio de Janeiro has been the second one, with about 19,000. Although the number of cases and deaths has been decreasing, there are still around 5,000 deaths per week.
