The strongbox of society: the seed vault that protects the humanity’s vegetable heritage

Inside an Arctic mountain on a Norweigan island located 1400 km from the North Pole, a bank of seeds keeps safe the genetic diversity of a wide variety of crops from around the world.

Despite the existence of multiple genebanks worldwide, this particular one was built to stand the test of time, resisting any natural or man-kind disaster with no funding or management required.

It is prepared to store up to 4,5 million varieties of crops, currently keeping only one million.

This international vault is the ultimate insurance policy for the world’s food supply, which is prepared to fight against climate change and population growth.
